A recent study published in the International Journal of Oncology has shown the beneficial effects of homeopathic medicines on breast cancer cells.

In 1999, the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) evaluated a treatment protocol developed at the cancer P. Banerji Omeopatic Research Foundation (PBHRF) in India. The "Banerji Protocol requires the use of specific natural substances in infinitesimal doses for the treatment of patients with different types of cancer. The NCI examined 10 patients treated with the "Banerji Protocol." In four cases of lung cancer and esophagus, the National Cancer Institute confirmed partial responses. All patients were assessed with appropriate tests (including imaging tests) to confirm the diagnosis and responses to therapy. The patients had received only the remedies prescribed at the clinic (PBHRF) and had not received any additional treatment to conventional medicine such as surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy. But after a rigorous evaluation, NCI concluded that there was insufficient evidence of efficacy to justify further research on the Banerji Protocol.

Considering the growing interest in remedies Banerji Protocol among patients hospitalized at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas, many of whom are suffering from advanced breast cancer, a team of researchers decided to evaluate the 'in vitro effect of these remedies.

The result of this study was recently published in the journal "International Journal of Oncology."

The study showed that four homeopathic remedies have exercised preferential cytotoxic effects against two lines cell breast cancer (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231), causing delay and cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. These effects were accompanied by the appropriate change in the expression of cell cycle regulatory proteins.

The experiments were conducted in triplicate and repeated at least twice for each homeopathic remedy used . The researchers found that homeopathic remedies appear to have similar activity to the activity of paclitaxel (Taxol), the drug most commonly used in chemotherapy for breast cancer, without exerting toxic effects on normal cells.

The results of the study so they do not demonstrate that the biological activity of homeopathic substances examined in the study at the doses used infinitesimal.
